Pieces of a Beautiful Flower

It's crazy when you really think about some of the phases and cycles that we as people go through throughout the course of your life. What's even more amazing is the fact that GOD allows us to create and re-create our lives over and over again.
Today I was approached by an older man who was looking for a restroom in my building. I said that I would show him where to go since I was headed that way. Within a moment he noticed the small letters of a tattoo on my upper back peaking out ever so slightly from my sweater. He asked "what does that say on your back young lady?" I responded by saying that "it is a piece of my name that you see." He then asked "what made you do that?" I responded by saying "well I have had this tattoo since I was 19 years old. I am now 29 years old. At the time, I guess having a tattoo seemed to be important to me. Now I have realized that I don't necessarily need any marks to identify me." My demeanor was calm and I answered politely. I was not offended in anyway or defensive about my decisions. The older gentleman was quiet for a moment but within moments he said "and now you are a beautiful flower!"
I smiled and thanked the man as we arrived at the restrooms.
As I walked on I began thinking about how far I have come. From piercings and tats to a totally different woman. I too refer to myself as a beautiful flower despite all that I have gone through. Makes me realize how blessed I am to have made choices and decisions that I can learn from, grow from and evolve from. In times of adversity I may have retreated but I have never withered up and died. I have grown, matured and I am becoming a beautiful young lady from the inside out.
As you go on through your day, please remember that where you are at any given time is not permanent. You have the power to change. You may not see it right away because evolution takes time. You too are a beautiful flower, phoenix, butterfly or whatever you like to call yourself.
