Today, June 2, 2015, millions of people pledge to wear orange for National Gun Violence Awareness Day. Gun Violence has been on the rise nationally here in the United States. When you turn on the news there's a war going on out there... and guess what? It's in your backyard. A place proclaimed to be the land of the free and home of the brave our Nation is riddled with heinous acts of crime. Black on black gun violence, White on black gun violence, police on civilians, civilians on police, school shootings and the list goes on. This is an epidemic. An epidemic that is growing thanks to the wide spread use of social media, music, television and other technologies that make guns and seeing gun violence accessible.
There's so much hate, confusion, miscommunication, lack of education and other factors that act as ammunition. Gun violence claims the lives of so many of our young people, I often wonder what's being done to stop it? I hope that the millions of people wearing orange today really channel their energy and resources into promoting peace and providing for those in need here in the United States of America. According to PR Newswire celebrities like Julianne Moore, Russell Simmons, Alyssa Milano and over 140 companies such as HBO, MTV and Essence magazine have all joined the cause to symbolize the value of human life.
We are all ONE.
